Spider-Man' scales London building

French "Spider-Man" Alain Robert has scaled the more than 20-story Portland House building in London to raise awareness about global warming.

Robert, sporting a T-shirt advertising the Web site “thesolutionissimple.org”, was arrested after he climbed the 331-foot-tall building, The Times of London reported Wednesday.

Police, who cordoned off the area during Robert's stunt, arrested the climber, once he completed his assent, on suspicion of criminal damage and wasting police time. He was being held Tuesday in a London police station.

Robert has climbed more than 70 of the world's tallest and most famous structures, including Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. The climber, who was given the nickname "Spider-Man" for his wall-scaling abilities, performs the feats with no equipment or safety nets.

SYDNEY (AFP) — A French climber nicknamed "Spiderman" scaled a landmark Sydney skyscraper, thrilling office workers but angering police, who arrested him upon his descent.

Police closed off roads along most of a city block as Alain Robert made his way up the 219 metre (718 foot) Aurora Place building without safety ropes or a harness, cheered on by about 200 pedestrians.

Police arrested Mr Robert at the top of the 62-storey Cheung Kong Centre, but he was later released without charge. He unfurled a banner during his climb, naming a website that claims to be counting down the number of months left to save the planet from global warming.

Alain Robert, also known as the 'French Spiderman,' decided to climb 52 stories of the New York Times building on Thursday before being arrested by the NYPD upon reaching the summit.Robert, who is known to scale high-rises to draw attention to environmental issues, did this particular climb untethered. Upon reaching the top he unfurled a banner that read "Global warming kills more people than 9/11 every week."
